How Can You Help a Child or Teen Struggling in School?

If you’ve ever wondered what you can do to address the challenges of a complex education system: this is it. Find one hour of your time to volunteer as a tutor or mentor with a child or a teen. The results of consistent mentorship are impressive. Research shows that, for example, one hour of one-on-one weekly tutoring during the course of a year can raise a student’s reading level by a whole letter grade.

Our community is bearing witness to an ever-growing achievement gap. By acting now, a community of invested adults and students can turn the tide. A good education is the most promising pathway out of poverty. By educating our children, we create a safer, more prosperous community for everyone.

What is Find an Hour?

Find an Hour is an organization and movement whose goal is to put willing community members directly at the disposal of organizations in need of volunteers to tutor or mentor students grades K through 12. The Find an Hour team’s hope is that this platform will make finding volunteer opportunities easier and more streamlined.

Find and Hour is more than just a website, though. It is a collaboration between organizations, a movement in the community to get kids the mentorship they need and deserve. For this reason, the Find an Hour team welcomes suggestions, questions and comments via email at info@findanhour.org. How could this website be more accessible? What organizations are not represented here that should be? Let us know.

Volunteer an hour and make an impact

We have something for every volunteer. No matter your area of interest, Find an Hour will help your skills be put to use for the benefit of an individual child, teen or program. Relationships formed by tutoring and mentoring are incredibly rewarding. As students learn and grow, you will too. Take the first step: learn about opportunities to volunteer and submit a message of interest. Training will be provided for first-time tutors and mentors.
